Behind the studio

Wattle & Word is led by me, Katrina Parry, a writer and editor with over 20 years' experience in media — including 10 years working in television as a producer, and, more recently, as managing editor of some of the region's best-known community magazines and editor of The Ballina Wave, a publication I helped develop and build from the ground up.

That background sits behind every piece of work we produce: a producer's instinct for story and structure, an editor's eye for what to cut, and a long-standing relationship with the businesses, publications and stories of the Northern Rivers.

Photography, where required, is delivered in partnership with internationally recognised Byron Bay photographer Craig Parry — a long-standing collaborator whose commercial work brings Wattle & Word's words and pictures together under one roof.

How we work

Most projects start with a short conversation about what you're trying to say and who needs to hear it. From there, we'll put together a proposal that outlines the scope, the timeline and the cost.

We take on a small number of clients at a time and prefer ongoing relationships to one-off jobs, although both are welcome. We work with businesses that care about how they sound on the page and how they're found online, tourism operators across the Northern Rivers who want their marketing to match the quality of their offering, and publications who need contributed writing or editorial support.

Why the Northern Rivers

Because it's home. Because the region is full of businesses doing remarkable things and not always saying so as clearly as they could. And because good writing benefits from being made somewhere with the time and quiet to do it properly.

We're based in Lennox Head, and we work in person with clients across Ballina, Lennox Head, Byron Bay, Lismore, the Tweed Coast and beyond. We're also available to work remotely with clients further afield.
